Still no new art to post, although the big heron I’m working on should be ready for next week. In the meantime,I have been looking at my earlier work while I consider whether to include some of it in the book I’m doing as a prelude to the Birds. As I’ve mentioned before, I began the Angels in honor of friends who’d died of AIDS, and then when 9/11 happened, those paintings became about that too. The Birds, although different in spite of also having wings, come from the same sadness and outrage, but will the Angels be informative or a distraction? Time will tell.
In other news, the grant money has arrived, which is great because I’m nervous about be getting my Social Security and tax refunds. I’m also nervous about traveling with my laptop and phone. Not that I’m a rabble rouser, but what’s on my Facebook page could get me into trouble. Should I delete it? Ah, yes, paranoia - see how that works? But the bottom line is, even US citizens are susceptible to searches at Customs here because, technically, they are not in the States until they’ve been officially approved for entry.
How can this be happening? Each day is scarier than the last. But the sun is shining, I have a nice place to live and some money in the bank, and there aren’t bombs going off outside. Yet. Enough - it's a beautiful day, I need a walk.
