Pericles
As In Shakespeare, Not The Greek Politician

I love falcons. Those fierce eyes and beaks, but they’re hard to paint if one wants to get them right. There have been 12 so far, including Pericles, this new one. Actually, there’ve been a couple that I was so unhappy with I slathered them with gesso and started over. Pericles, I happen to like.
I am still adjusting to how the cataract surgery has affected my painting and that instead of being about my signature precision, the work is becoming more about blending and density. It has my usual tight details, but I simply can’t see what I’m doing close up. Although, given last week’s Kafka and now Pericles, that hasn’t been such a bad thing. It should be interesting to watch what happens after the other eye is done. I’ve been told my general vision will be better, but I’ll need reading glasses for the laptop and phone and yes, painting. Ah well, luxury problems.
In the meantime, my studio sale has slowed down but my website has had 306 views since I posted about it. My audience on Substack continues to grow, and I’ve figured out how to post a video in Notes, so there will be more of them in the future. However I can’t even begin to comment on US politics and maintain any sanity so I’ll let those I subscribe to here who are brilliant at it continue to carry on about the topic. Me, I will just keep painting birds. Onward.
